Types of Membership

Trade (voting members) and Associate (non-voting members).

Trade Membership allows a company involved in the manufacturer, wholesale, retail sales, or rental and laundry of cloth diapers to join the cloth diaper industry trade association. The company receives member benefits and one vote.

An Associate Member is a company that wouldn’t otherwise qualify for membership but supports the basic purpose and principles governing this association. Associate members receive member privileges but do not get a vote.

Membership Opportunities

Each trade member at any level:

supports the mission of RDIA to make reusable cloth diapers the primary choice for babies
is considered a member in good standing if they have paid dues, conduct themselves in accordance with the RDIA Code of Ethics, and are not in violation of bylaws and policies
is a voting member of RDIA, voting on board members and bylaw changes
may run for the RDIA board of directors to steer the association
is listed in RDIA directories
gets valuable networking opportunities through RDIA in-person conferences and online discussion groups
receives periodic email newsletter updates on RDIA activities and events
may attend monthly webinars on topics of business education, industry research, collaborative marketing, and group benefits
may attend bi-annual business conference at the member rate
may participate in certification programs (currently diaper service only)
receives reduced rates for sponsorship of projects (such as the Consider Cloth kit or ConsiderCloth.org)
may display RDIA member logo on website
may volunteer to work on RDIA projects and programs

Levels of Membership

You choose your level of RDIA membership.

Member - Be a part of the trade association. Covers basic administrative costs.
Supporter - Show your commitment to working with others in the industry. Covers basic administrative costs of RDIA as well as supporting some additional programs to spread cloth diapers.
Advocate - Do all you can to increase the use of cloth diapers, creating more business for everyone in the industry. Covers basic administrative costs of RDIA, program support, and funding of additional advocacy of cloth diapers.

We encourage those who work exclusively in the cloth diaper industry, have been in business longer, have higher annual sales and those who are highly committed to the industry to join at the highest level of their ability.

Supporter and Advocate member levels do not come with additional membership benefits other than recognition in the membership directory and the satisfaction of contributing to the advancement of the cloth diaper industry.

You are welcome to join at any level, if you sell or rent cloth diapers and your business meets the criteria set out in the RDIA bylaws. If you are committed to the cloth diaper industry but you do not sell or rent cloth diapers, we invite you to join RDIA as an associate member at any of these levels.

Categories of Trade Members

Trade members are the voting members of the trade association, cloth diaper businesses. The business itself is the member, with a human representing the business as the "member of record." They vote for board members and major changes to bylaws. (See Bylaws for eligibility details.)

Manufacturer - Engaged in the primary business of product manufacturing which must include the manufacture and wholesale distribution of re-usable cloth diapers.
Retailer - Engaged in the primary business of retailing consumer products which must include the wholesale purchase and retail resale of re-usable cloth diapering products to end users.
Diaper Service - Engaged in the primary business of a subscription type service which must include the distribution, collection and washing of re-usable cloth diapers.
Artisan Manufacturer - Engaged in the primary business of handmade product manufacturing which must include re-usable cloth diapering products for direct sale to end users.

Many in our industry operate under more than one of these categories. Choose your primary category. This will be the category that you vote for in board elections. This is also the category in which you are eligible to run.

If you operate two legally separate business entities, both are eligible for membership in RDIA. (See Bylaws for details.)

Members in any of these categories can choose membership at any level: Member, Supporter, or Advocate.

Associate Members

Anyone not eligible for trade membership (including but not limited to individuals, businesses, nonprofit organizations, universities, or government entities) who is interested in the purposes of RDIA may request Associate membership. Associate membership applications subject to approval. (See Bylaws for details.)

Associate members do not elect board members or vote on bylaw changes, but they are welcome to participate in all other opportunities given to members, such as discussion groups, sponsorship opportunities, group discounts, conference attendance, and so on.

Like trade members, all associates can choose membership at any level: Member, Supporter, or Advocate.
