Tale of 2 Diapers

When Mothering Magazine Editor Peggy O'Mara spoke to our annual meeting in Las Vegas in September 2008, she told us about the history of the cloth diaper industry during her lifetime.

As a parent and an advocate, Peggy has watched very closely the disinformation campaigns to dissuade parents from choosing reusable cloth diapers.

She traced health and waste issues through 1970s through the 1990s, noting how a resurgence in grassroots natural parenting, including cloth diapering, was met by intense advertising and sponsored studies by competitors.

She concluded with news of a cloth-diapering renaissance, of which Mothering Magazine has been a big part.  It is this renaissance that makes the Real Diaper Industry Association possible and necessary now.
